India-Bangladesh border gates in Dharmanagar sub-division of Tripura have been closed from Tuesday. A high alert has been issued in the entire state ahead of Republic Day celebrations and upcoming Assembly polls.

Border gates at Yakub Nagar, Ragna, Brajendra Nagar, Tarakpur, Malakar Basti and Maheshpur have been closed.

Security has been intensified in those areas.

These gates are usually opened three times a day. But since last two days BSF personnel manning the gates have closed the gates for the whole day to avoid any untoward incident ahead of assembly election.

Farmers from Yakub Nagar, Ragna and Malakar Basti usually used to cross the gates for carrying out their daily chores.

Meanwhile security has been intensified across the state of Tripura. The security forces are keeping no stone unturned with the security measures in the state ahead of Assembly elections scheduled to be held on February 18.

Security personnel are busy checking and patrolling in trains and bus terminals and check posts.

Thousands of police and anti-aircraft guns deployed at strategic points in view of intelligence inputs about threats from terror groups to some important installations in the city.

CISF personnel have been deployed in vital installations of the state to ensure a terror-free election.

Close circuit cameras have also been installed at the Churraebari check post and other vital roads.

A posse of police personnel has also been deployed in crowded markets, bus stops, railway stations, airport and malls.

Tripura goes to poll on February 18 and counting of votes will be held on March 3.
