Former Tripura MLA Manoranjan Acharjee has succumbed to COVID19 infection on Saturday night.

Acharjee died at GBP Hospital in Agartala.

He was 58 years.

Acharjee, a former CPI(M) MLA, represented the Amarpur Assembly constituency.

His wife, who is also infected by COVID19, is undergoing treatment at GBP Hospital.

Her condition is stated to be stable.

Acharjee, who was suffering from several ailments, tested positive for COVID19 a few days back and was admitted to the GBP Hospital for treatment.

According to sources, the former MLA was recovering a little but died suddenly on Saturday night.

Acharjee won the Assembly polls from Amarpur in 2008.

He was re-elected to the Assembly in 2013 on CPI(M) ticket.

But after a few years, several allegations were levelled against him and he resigned as an MLA as directed by his party.

He was later expelled from the party.

A case was also filed against him. However, the allegations were not proved in the court.

Acharjee later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

However, the BJP did not field him in the last Assembly elections.

More than 10 MLAs have been infected by COVID19 in Tripura.

One minister has also infected by the virus.
