Former Tripura Power Minister and senior CPI-M leader Manik Dey has raised objection to the BJP-led State Government’s plans of privatising the power department.

He said that the Tripura Government’s plans to privatise power sector would bring danger in the future.
Manik Dey said claimed the power sector in Tripura has totally collapsed and handing over the services to private companies will bring more danger in the coming days.

“The present government is planning to privatise the power sector because it has completely collapsed. People are not getting electricity due to shortage in power supply,” Dey alleged.

Former Tripura power minister Manik Dey said that instead of privatising, the State Government should focus on managing the power sector properly.

Dey claimed the condition of the power sector in Tripura was very poor before the CPI-M formed government in the State.

He said that previous CPI-M governments in the State, provided electricity connections to as many as 14,600 households.

“However, the then government realized that in order to provide proper electricity services to the people, first of all, special importance should be given to the production system. Therefore, the then government strengthened the production system in Dumbur, Rukhia and Baramura. Later, when the state was able to provide electricity services to the people properly, the previous Left government undertook two more projects. So that the quality of service can be further improved,” Dey said.
