Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb has stated that variants of COVID-19 mutate into another form after infecting people. 

Tripura CM Biplab Deb, who also holds the health portfolio of the state said, “A variant of COVID-19 may mutate into another variant in 15 days after infecting a person.”

This statement from the Tripura chief minister comes just days after the Centre denied State Government’s claim that Delta Plus variant was detected in 138 cases of COVID-19 in the state recently. 

CM Deb said: “The central government is monitoring the COVID situation across the country and we in Tripura are following all guidelines.”

He added: “There is nothing to panic. I urge everyone in Tripura to follow COVID Appropriate Behaviour.” 

The Centre recently said that not a single case of Delta Plus variant has been found in the state so far, adding, the results of genome sequencing reveal cases of Delta variant of the virus. 

“There was no case of Delta Plus reported among the lot of sequenced samples,” a communiqué said.
