AGARTALA: Congress leader Ajoy Kumar accused the BJP of engaging in “state-sponsored terrorism” in the Northeast state of Tripura.

Kumar criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning his promise to eradicate terrorism.

“The ‘56-inch’ guy said that terrorism would be wiped out, but in Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists killed four brave soldiers,” he said.

“In Tripura, the BJP is attacking and killing opponents. They have their government there. All BJP people burned houses and killed people,” said Congress leader Ajoy Kumar.

The Congress leader added: “When you attack innocent people and commit random acts of violence, it is called terrorism.”

“The situation in Tripura is very serious,” he said.

Kumar highlighted a delegation in 2022 that was attacked while investigating violence in Tripura, describing it as “state-sponsored”.

He accused the BJP of fomenting conflicts to maintain power, stating, “Just to get power, the BJP started a fight between Kuki and Meitis in Manipur and now they have started a fight between tribals and non-tribals in Tripura.”

The Dhalai district administration reported that approximately 30 to 40 shops and 20 to 25 houses were completely destroyed.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
