BSF troops, acting on a tip-off about stocking and concealment of huge quantity of Yaba tablets near the Indo-Bangladesh border in the general area of Bhati Kalamchera village, carried out a special search operation.

During the search in a rubber garden, close to the Indo-Bangla fencing, the BSF troops recovered seven poly bags dumped and concealed under bushes.

The BSF troops opened the poly bags and recovered another eight packets containing 16,200 Yaba tablets worth Rs. 81,00,000, besides 55 bottles of beer worth Rs. 6,600 and 34 bottles of whiskey worth Rs. 3,400 along with seven bottles of Eskuf syrup worth Rs. 738.50 from the spot.

The recovered items were meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh.

Yaba is a drug in tablet form and this tablet is often red in colour with letters WY are imprinted on it.

All the seized items were handed over to Kalamchera police station for further disposal.

This was the third largest consignment of Yaba tablets seized by the BSF troops in the current year.

The first largest case of seizure of Yaba tablets was of NC Nagar Border Outpost under Sonamura PS, in which on April 6, 2019, the BSF troops seized 28,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs. 1,40,00,000 from a shop of spare parts at NC Nagar village.

In the second instance, on May 13, 2019, the BSF troops of NC Nagar Border Outpost again seized 17,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs.85,00,000 from a house owned by one Md Maful Miah of NC Nagar village.

It is pertinent to mention that the area falls under Kalamchera PS and Sonamura under Sepahijala district, which is the most vulnerable area of Tripura in respect of smuggling of Yaba tablets, ganja, Phensedyl and other Codeine based cough syrup.

BSF, in coordination with other sister agencies, is taking all preventive measures to contain smuggling of drugs.
