A 25-year-old youth, who is a driver by profession, was sent to 7-day police custody on charges of raping and then killing a woman in Agartala.
Sources said, “The arrested youth, Sourab Paul, was produced before the court in Agartala on Sunday and from there he was sent to police remand for seven days.
He was detained by Sidahi police on Friday just after recovery of the charred body of a young lady teacher at Mohanpur.

The charred body was recovered from a paddy field at Rangamura village under Mohanpur police station in West Tripura district.
Police suspected that the lady teacher was raped and then killed.
The 22-year-old lady teacher has been identified as Monty Deb and she worked in a private school.
The victim’s family registered a case on Saturday at Sidhai police station.
The family alleged that their daughter was raped before murder.
The Communist Party of India (CPI-M), Congress and other political organizations have sharply criticized the state government after this incident.
CPI (M) state secretary demanded Gautam Das has demanded a judicial investigation to this case.
Gautam Das addressed a press conference on Sunday night.
Congress leader Subal Bhowmik alleged that he went to Mohanpur on Saturday to meet the victim’s family but the local BJP leaders and workers did not allow them to meet the victim’s family.
He also alleged that the ruling party was trying to hide something in the case.
Tripura law minister Ratn Lal Nath went to Mohanpur on Sunday and talked to the victim’s family.
The minister assured the family members of the victim of justice.
Later he alleged that some political leaders were trying to get mileage from the incident.
