The police have seized a huge quantity of 613 kg of dry cannabis from an Assam-bound truck at Mungiakami in West Tripura district.

The police seized the contraband from a lorry during checking of vehicles on the national highway 8 under Mungiakami police station on Monday morning.

The lorry, bearing the registration number AS04AC-2295, was on its way from Agartala in Tripura to Assam.

The market value of the cannabis is worth Rs 30, 75,000 in the market.

The driver of the vehicle Sanjeev Debbarma (35) and his assistant Sanjit Debbarma (34) have also been arrested.

Both of them were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

The duo hailed from the Khowai sub-division in Tripura.

Teliamura sub-divisional police officer Sona Charan Jamatia, Mungiakami police station OC Dhrubajoy Reang and SI Ranjit Das were present on the spot when the cannabis were recovered.
