As many as 12 people have been arrested in Tripura for allegedly spreading rumours over child trafficking in the State during the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Tripura Police have launched a massive state-wide crackdown on rumour mongers which led to the killing of four persons in different areas of Tripura on Thursday.

The 12 persons were arrested from three separate places of the State in connection with the mob lynching incident at Manu, Agartala and Bishalgarh , where two young men and a woman were lynched to death by a mob and many others sustained grievous injuries.

The police are also on the lookout for the culprits involved in the lynching of an innocent vendor at Murabari area under Mohanpur subdivision.

Police sources said that four persons Rabidhan Tripura, Dhirendra Tripura, Ashique Das and another unidentified person were arrested for their direct involvement in Kalacherra (Manu) lynching incident.

Police also arrested eight more miscreants, four each in connection of their direct involvement with rumour mongering in Agartala and Bishalgarh.

Meanwhile, police have launched a massive hunt for the culprits involved in the Kalacherra incident, where three retail garment sellers from Uttar Pradesh, suspecting as child-traffickers were mercilessly thrashed by a violent mob killing one of them.
