Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday flagged-off the cold storage truck containing first consignment of 1 MT ‘Queen’ variety of pineapple bound for Dubai.

The truck was flagged-off from the Horticulture Research Complex, Nagicherra Sunday.

Agriculture Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, senior officials of the Horticulture department and representatives from exporters – Spicejet and Kreamery Craft were present on the occasion.

Speaking to reporters Deb said with the starting of export of pineapple the income of the farmers of the state will go up which is the dream of Prime Minister Modi.

He said, “PM Narendra Bhai Modi’s mission is to double the income of farmers and the agriculture ministry in a very short time has made arrangements for exporting pineapples. Today the first consignment of 1 MT pineapple has been flagged off for Dubai. We are happy that the dream of the Prime Minister has started getting materialized here.”

Deb said, “Bamboo cultivation for development of the Northeast is another dream of our Prime Minister. Every year in the bamboo sector we are losing around than Rs 1 lakh crore.”

To boost the export of pineapples, state-run Tripura Horticulture Corporation Limited (THCL) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Spicejet Merchandise Pvt Ltd.

The consignment is likely to reach today evening by flight to Delhi and hit the Dubai market Monday afternoon.
