An Indian member of an Islamic terrorist organization operating in Bangladesh was arrested in Tripura on Tuesday, said a top police official on Tuesday.

Director General of Tripura Police, Akhil Kumar Shukla during an urgent press conference in the evening said, “We had information that a person involved with terrorist activities and his partners may be present here and on the basis of that input we were active. Today a person Nazir Shaikh was detained. This person is from Murshidabad of West Bengal and he has connections with Bangladesh terror group Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB)”

He further added, “The source also informed that this person is trained in improvised explosive device or IED. All of you are aware that Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh is a terror group of Bangladesh that during the year 2005 did explosions in 63 districts simultaneously.”

Shukla informed that the JMB organization has also developed connections in India with similar terror activities here.

“On January 19, 2018 when Dalai Lama was visiting Bodh Gaya, at that time three IEDs were recovered. Fortunately those IEDs were recovered before any explosion and this organization was also behind planting those IEDs,” the DGP added.

Though the DGP refused to give much details about the detained JMB member aged around 25 years but informed that his interrogation and on Wednesday he will be produced in the court.

Connecting terrorist activist with drugs, the DGP said that during last year under the cheif minister’s drugs free mission of the Tripura Police along with other security agencies has got huge success action against drugs mafias and moreover, as the Bangladesh government has also taken action against drugs smugglers so they are under pressure from both sides.

Giving details on the seized drugs, the DGP said during the year 2018 in Tripura all total 65363 kg of ganja, 188000 cough syrup, 279000 Yaba tablets and little more than three kg of brown sugar were seized.

He added that the ganja seized in 2018 is almost eight times of what was seized in 2017.
