Continuing its anti-drugs operation the Dhalai district police in Tripura arrested two drug peddlers along with half kilogram brown sugar and more than rupee five lakh cash on Monday.

“This morning the police of Ambassa police station during special bike checking at bank area two persons were caught with two suspected pouches of brown sugar and they have been identified as Khokan Debnath and Rupam Roy,” said sub-divisional police officer of Ambasha, Asish Dasgupta.
He added, “Later during their interrogation, we got information of more hidden brown sugar and accordingly in the presence of the executive magistrate raided the house of Khokan Debnath and had dug out two plastic jars in which we got 32 more pouches of brown sugar beside cash. All total we got 490 gram brown sugar and cash Rs 5,34,500.”
Police have also detained wife of Khokan Debnath.
The SDPO was accompanied by officer-in-charge of Ambassa police station Himadri Sarkar and other troopers.
During the last 15 months after the BJP-IPFT government came to power in Tripura and anti-drugs operation has been launched in State and during which more than 73,000 kg of marijuana, besides several kilograms of brown sugar and heroine, lakhs of Yuba tablets and bottles of cough syrup has been seized and destroyed.
