He said, “After the new government came to power we had brought a ban over ganja cultivation, phensydel, Yaba tablets, and other drugs trafficking activities, the system that was existing for the last fifteen to sixteen years and it is very natural that all of a sudden in one day it can be changed. Still we could have seized record amount of ganja total around 82,000 MT in one year and you go through the last 10 years record, all total the seizure amount will not be 8000 MT. Now the government is dedicatedly doing all these along with the operations over brown sugar, heroine or phensydel and I believe in a very short time we shall be successful.”
He also appealed to the government of neighboring Assam and Mizoram to join Tripura in the fight against drugs like Bangladesh did leading to positive results for both.
He said, “Along with this through media, I will appeal to our neighboring states – Mizoram and Assam, the government there should also take similar steps against all these. Several investigations revealed that Yaba tables enter here through Assam’s Silchar city. So our neighboring state should also take similar steps for the good of our nation as well as that state. Tripura government initiated it and other states should also join it like our neighboring nation Bangladesh did and the results we can now see in both Tripura and Bangladesh.”
According to Deb drugs is more dangerous than insurgency and drugs destroy the entire social system and it is tough to come out of the net of drugs.
He said, “One may join insurgency and pick up a gun but on realizing that he is committing mistake can go for dialogue and leave the wrong path but when one gets addicted to brown sugar or cocaine then you alone do not get spoiled but it also destroys your family and the society. Insurgency also affects the society but history has revealed that it does not destroy the entire society but drugs destroy the total society and so I believe that it is more dangerous than insurgency. But we shall come out of it and the government is working towards it.”
