CPI-M Politburo member and former Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar criticized his own party member for their self-centric attitude.
The former chief minister also accepted that the CPI-M membership number has drastically fallen in Tripura after the party had gone out of power.
But he did not mention membership figure.
On Tuesday night he was addressing a gathering of CPI-M members at West district office.
The gathering was organized to pay homage former Left leader and MLA Rasiram Debbarma, who died last week after a prolonged illness.
Rasiram Debbarma was MLA from Mandai constituency of West Tripura district and veteran left leader of the State.
His role was significant to stabilize peace and harmony during the time of 1980’s communal riot in Tripura.
Manik Sarkar accepted that a section of party members are very much self-centric.
“They only think about their own profit and achievement,” Sarkar said.
“What is the main motto of communist party, it is not-relevant for them,” Sarkar added.
He said, for this reason mainly after 2018, the party membership has drastically fallen in Tripura.
Many CPI-M members are not interested to renew their membership.
According to Manik Sarkar, they are the most opportunists.
While party is no more in power they are leaving the party, he added.
But Manik Sarkar reminded his comrades that CPI-M is not a party only for power.
The Communist party has its own goal; the aim is to make a society without inequality, injustice, and deprivation.
The former chief minister said, till now the CPI-M had managed to form government only in three states in the country, but party’s flag is still in every State.
He also accepted that, during the last 25 years of power in Tripura the party has compromised its own ideology in many cases.
