In a laudable act, the drivers operating from the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Dharmanagar in Tripura reportedly ‘held back’ three women on Monday on the suspicion that they were smuggling cannabis. One of the women had a five-year-old child with her. The entire episode (read of these women possessing cannabis) has sparked off huge resentment among the people living in and around the Dharmanagar area.

It is reported that the women were ‘held back’ by the drivers at Dharmanagar ISBT when they were hiring a cab to leave for Karimganj in Assam. The drivers grew suspicious when they saw that the said ladies had 13 bags with them. On “forcibly” checking their bags, they reportedly found the trio was carrying 33 packets of cannabis weighing up to 107 kg and 500 gm.  The ISBT drivers immediately informed the BMS leader who, in turn, informed the Dharmanagar Police Station.

On receiving the news, police official Biswajit Sukhla Das along with a team reached the spot and seized the bags and arrested the accused women along with the child. During interrogation, police found that the trio were all residents of Bihar and was identified as Amna Khatun, Rashida Bibi, Yasmin and the five-year-old child Mohammed Wahid.

Police has filed a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act 97/2018 and further probe is on.  As the authorities in Tripura are cracking the whip vis-à-vis smuggling of contraband goods, the people involved in this whole ‘smuggling network’ from outside the State are looking for every possible opportunity to ‘flee’ the State and are almost running for their dear life!

Few days back, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel ‘detained’ few persons from Bihar during security check in Agartala airport for allegedly trying to smuggle gold biscuits and drugs.
