Ace Tripura gymnast Dipa Karmakar is likely to restart her training for the challenging Produnova vault after next month’s Doha World Cup, her coach Bisheswar Nandi said.

The first female Indian gymnast ever to compete at the Olympics, Dipa came inot the spotlight after her extraordinary display of Produnova vault at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

However, the gymnast who hails from Tripura was forced to dump the ‘vault of death’ routine after a knee injury in 2017, reports The Assam Tribune.

The star gymnast is likely to start training for the most difficult vault of gymnastics after her participation at the Baku World Cup and Doha World Cup.

Nandi said that a rigorous practice session of three to four months is required for Produnova. The gymnast will start working on Produnova after participating in the Doha World Cup.

He said that due to severe injuries, Dipa hadn’t got time to practice for Produnova and ‘the vault of death’ is also a very hard and risky vault of gymnastics.

Dipa had to undergo surgery in April last year and missed the Asian Championship, World Championship in Canada last year and the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

She returned to action by claiming a gold at the World Challenge Cup in Turkey in July last year but a strained knee saw her miss the vault final in Jakarta Asian Games, before she pulled out of the team event as well.

The Produnova is an artistic gymnastics vault consisting of a front handspring onto the vaulting horse and two front somersaults in a tucked position off it.
