Gymnast Dipa Karmakar along with her coach Bisweshwar Nandi met Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday, the first day of the year 2019 and said that her present target is to get selected for ensuing Tokyo Olympics.

This was her first meeting with the Tripura CM after her return with a bronze medal at the vault event on the third day of the Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Germany’s Cottbus.

Tripura’s Olympian gymnast Dipa Karmakar gifted the State Chief Minister a book written on her.

They also shared New Year wishes.

The 25-year-old gymnast from Tripura said after returning to action following a long layoff of nearly two years due to a surgery after an injury.

There were whispering from various corners that her career as a gymnast was over as she has grown old but the medal that she has received shows that she still has potential and her lone target now is to get qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Dipa Karmakar was the first woman Indian gymnast who got selected for the Olympics and had finished fourth at the Rio Olympics.

Meanwhile, the Tripura CM said he is proud of Dipa Karmakar and she is the golden girl of Tripura, who has received all three national awards of the country and has brought laurels to not only the State but also the whole county’s.
