The Government Railway Police on Wednesday detained a Bangladeshi couple, including their minor daughter, at the Agartala railway station

Agartala: The Government Railway Police (GRP) detained three Bangladeshi nationals, including a minor girl, at the Agartala railway station in Tripura on Wednesday.

GRP officer-in-charge at Agartala railway station Tapas Das said they received information regarding Bangladeshi nationals, who had entered Tripura illegally, were likely to board a train from the station.

“Upon receiving information, we alerted the security agencies and deployed personnel in plain clothes at the railway station,” he said.

“We noticed three individuals approaching the station whose behaviour appeared to be suspicious. They were subsequently detained. Initially, they claimed to be Indian citizens but during questioning, they confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals,” he added.

Das said they revealed of illegally entering Tripura on Monday.

The detained individuals have been identified as Ruma Begum, her husband Md Jalal and their minor daughter – hailing from Bangladesh’s Bagerhat district.

A case has been registered in this regard.
