Union sports minister Kiren Rijiju on Monday said tribal boys, girls and children from Northeast India are trained at India Khelega Center, Pune.
Union minister Rijiju lauded the efforts of India Khelega Center, Pune to provide free coaching to street children, mostly orphans.
“Amazing efforts by India Khelega Center, Pune to give free coaching to street children, mostly orphans. Tribal Boys & girls and children from North-East are also trained here alongside top TT players like @manikabatra_TT,” Rijiju tweeted on Monday.
The center has been accredited under Khelo India programme.

“I had a memorable moment at INDIA KHELEGA sports center at SPM Institution, Pune. I’m impressed with the management in training Olympian like @manikabatra_TT and the commendable efforts to train young destitute boys and girls,” Rijiju added.
Meanwhile, the Union sports ministry has decided to name all upcoming and upgraded sporting facilities of the Sports Authority of India after renowned athletes, who have contributed to sports in India.
In the first leg, the newly-built air-conditioned wrestling hall and the learners swimming pool in the National Centre of Excellence, NOCE in Lucknow, the 100-bedded hostel in NCOE Bhopal, the multipurpose hall and Girls’ hostel in NCOE Sonepat will be named after local star sportspersons.
Speaking about the decision, Union sports minister Rijiju said, “To build a sports culture in the country, it is important that our sportspersons get the honour that they deserve.”
