Meghalaya

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has alleged that the government in Meghalaya was “patronising” illegal coal mining and transportation.

TMC legislator Marthon Sangma speaking of the same lines said that the State government was misusing various departments to make money and denying revenue to the State.

Sangma alleged that illegally extracted coal in Meghalaya was being transported as coal from Assam and then it was illegally exported to Bangladesh.

He further alleged that by doing this, some officers and traders in Meghalaya were making money while Assam was getting the revenue from the coal.

He said that situation is not possible by officers alone without any support from the government.

Sangma added, “I can vouch that not a kg of coal comes from Assam for export to Bangladesh,” he said.
