Heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms continued to lash Tripura over the last 24 hours claiming human lives and causing severe damages to property at many places across the State.

One woman died when a huge tree fell into her dwelling hut at Manikyanagar under Boxanagar police station as the northwester continues across the State.
The deceased has been identified as Purmima Nama Das, aged around 25 years, according to official sources.
Earlier, two villagers died and another injured after being struck by a strong lightning at Naitingcherra, a remote region of Longhtrai Valley subdivision.
The victims, Laxmipati Tripura aged around 43 years, Dudiram Tripura, aged around 52 years and Arjun Tripura, aged around 45 years were inside a makeshift hut at Naitingcherra village when lightning struck the hut.
Laxmipati and Dudiram died on the spot while Arjun suffered burn injuries.
Meanwhile, an ad hoc relief of Rs 20,000 each was given to the next of kin of the deceased while full compensation will be awarded later to the two families by the sub-divisional administration.
Meteorology department forecasts a moderate to heavy rainfall is very likely across the state in the next 24 hours.
In another incident in Karamcherra area of Dhalai district, a tribal man and woman, presumably husband and wife, were struck by a powerful lightning while working in their ‘jhum’ field in a hilly area.
Both of them were declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctor at the local primary health centre.
Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to more heavy rains in the State in next couple of days.
