Three Prepak members arrested with Rs 1.9 lakh in Manipur.

Imphal: Manipur Police arrested three active members of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) along with three mobile phones and Rs 1.9 lakh in cash, an official statement said on Monday.

The arrests and seizure were made while the police were launching a raid following a tip-off that ruthless extortion campaigns were being made at an area of the Thangal bazaar of Imphal city on Saturday.

The arrested persons were later identified as Konthoujam Kumar Singh (46), a resident of Konthoujam Mamang Leikai in Imphal East district,  Ankur Mahawar (40), and Naveen Mahawar (48) both residents of Thangal bazaar, Imphal.

They were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West, and have been remanded to police custody till May 24, the report added.

Meanwhile, independent sources said that these arrested persons including two non-locals launched the extortion drives on behalf of the underground Prepak in the city areas for the past many weeks.
