Tawang MLA Tsering Tashi in presence of ADC Lobsang Tsering, Heads of Departments, Gaon Burhas (GBs) and PRI members on Tuesday launched Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) for Tawang district at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here.

Speaking during the programme, organized by the Department of Public health Engineering (PHE) and the district administration, Tashi informed that the first ever Rural Swachhta Survey will have 6980 villages under various districts across the country competing with each other and would be ranked as per their cleanliness and sanitation status.

Reiterating that Survekshan is integral for the cause of Swachhta, the legislator opined that an honest reporting of the cleanliness/sanitation status of the district should be made during the programme to be held from August 1 to August 31 so as to determine the actual progress and also highlight the areas where the district needs to gear up.

Further, highlighting the pivotal role of GBs, ASHAs and Anganwadi workers in mobilizing masses, he appealed for their active and voluntary participation.

ADC Tsering also threw light on the idea of Clean India and said that the various activities undertaken under SBM has been very effective, results of which are crystal clear.

He informed that the survey would be conducted by independent agency and the top performing State/district would be awarded on October 2.

A detailed presentation on the programme highlighting the objectives, components and parameters that would be used to rank the villages and districts was also given by the PHE Department.

SSG was also launched in Anjaw, Upper Siang, Lower Subansiri and Lohit districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
