The 222 km Imphal-Jiribam sector of the National Highway 37 which was always in the news in the recent past because of frequent landslide and breaking down of British period bridges along the route, is currently maintained by National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited.

Meanwhile the flood situation in some parts of the State is improving although some areas are still inundated under flood water, according to government sources.

However, local sources claimed that fresh flash flood was reported at Khangabok area in Thoubal district.

Meanwhile, the death toll in the flash flood has risen to eight with the recovery of a missing man’s body on Tuesday while it also claimed lives of 400 animals and all together 51,689 victims from 269 different flood affected villages were evacuated as on Tuesday, according to Directorate of Relief and Disaster Management.

The flood also damaged 4,167 hectares of agricultural land and 23,463 houses in ten districts.

Around 50,372 people are taking shelter at 155 relief camps which were opened providing assistance and distributing relief materials.

Meanwhile, responding to Governor of Manipur Dr Najma Heptulla’s call, many benevolent people started to donate cash to Governor’s and Chief Minister’s relief funds for flood victims separately.

On the other hand, the State Health Department has started to organize many health camps across the flood affected areas while the district administration initiated distribution of relief materials.
