Top Indian shuttler, PV Sindhu on Thursday advanced to the women’s singles quarterfinals of the Senior National Badminton Championships in Guwahati.

She defeated Nagpur’s Malvika Bansod to reach the quarterfinals.

Sindhu in her first match in the tournament beat Malvika in 21-11, 21-13 sets.

The Olympic silver medalist was the last edition Senior National Badminton Championships’ runner-up.

Meanwhile, former world no. 1, Saina Nehwal complained about the court in the stadium, following which her match was shifted to another court.

The top 8 players, ranked below 50 in the BWF World Rankings in both men’s and women’s singles, will start directly from the pre-quarter-finals on completion of the Super Draw on February 14.

In doubles, the top 4 teams within the top 50 will be placed in the quarter-finals. The singles draw will have 16 seeds while the maximum number of seeds in the doubles section will be eight.

Around 650 players from 39 affiliated units of Badminton Association of India (BAI) participated in the competition.

This is the first time since 2010, Guwahati is hosting the prestigious tournament.
