A spot painting competition by Department of Science & Technology, Manipur government was organized on Friday in Imphal.
The painting competition was organized to observe the National Science Day & International Museums Day, 2018 cum the 13th Anniversary of Manipur Science Centre.
The competition was held at the auditorium of Manipur Science Centre Takyelpat in Imphal.
Deputy Chief Minister, Y Joykumar Singh who holds the Science and Technology portfolio was the chief guest of the occasion while Commissioner (Sc & Tech) T Pamei and Director (Sc & Tech), Elangbam Ibocha Singh were also present.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Joykumar said, science is all about things and happenings around us. Learning science is to think and question how things are happening and its relation with nature. Young minds should also try to understand the laws of nature and its relation with human beings as well, he added.
In his speech, Commissioner (Sc & Tech) Pamei said, students should have inquisitive minds to enquire and observe things around them. He said, scientific understanding among students will help them develop innovative ideas.
Director (Sc & Tech), Elangbam Ibocha Singh said, National Science Day is being observed every year to instill scientific temperament in students of the state. Therefore, scientific temperament has to be imbibed among people mostly to the young minds. He stated that Manipur Science Centre was set up in 2005 to facilitate students and many indoor and outdoor science shows are being displayed. Digital Planetarium set up in the campus has also become functional from March this year.
Awards were given to the students who got the top position in the Spot Painting Competitions held at the Centre.
