Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that institution of award after the name of great personalities like K.K. Handiqui gives opportunity to young generation to emulate the greatness of such personalities. The aura that these great personalities have created through  their devotion, dedication, diligence always influence the young generation to make them their ideals.

Presenting the Krishna Kanta Handiqui National Award 2018 at Indian Club in Dibrugarh today to eminent scholar Professor Amaresh Datta, Chief Minister Sonowal said that in order to help the young generation to increase inclination towards study and value-based education, educational institutions should play a great role. Based on values, tradition and convention, a healthy society can be developed. He also said that educational institutions should take proactive role in expanding the mental horizon of the students.

Sonowal also said, “We should all be careful so that humanity remains the base of a good society. Care should be taken so that science and technology can be wisely used to expedite the momentum of development”. He hailed the step of KK Handiqui State Open University for instituting the award after the name of the erudite scholar.

Reminiscing his association with Prof. Amaresh Datta, Chief Minister Sonowal said that he has been greatly benefitted from the latter not only in educational pursuit, he learnt the values of humanity from his teacher. Chief Minister Sonowal said that Dibrugarh is a historic town. This town has been imparting great role to enrich socio-cultural aspect of the state.

While speaking on the occasion, Professor Amaresh Datta said that adherence to certificates only, do not give real education. A value based education can empower the society. He also said that human beings live on knowledge based society. Therefore, we should all contribute positively to its enrichment. MLA Prasanta Phukan also spoke on the occasion. Vice Chancellor of KK. Handiqui State Open University Dr. Hitesh Deka gave the welcome address.
