Three veteran table tennis players from Sikkim, Kuber Bhandari, C S Subba and Bimal Gurung, have left for the United States to participate in the 19th World Veterans Table Tennis Championship starting in Las Vegas of the United States from June 17 to 24.

In a send off programme held at Sikkim House in the national capital on Saturday, Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker K N Rai, who is also the chief patron of Sikkim Veterans’ Table Tennis Association, released the t-shirts for the players with the message, “Visit Sikkim, the organic State of India” imprinted on them.

Rai wished the players a safe journey and good wishes for the championship

The Sikkim Legislative Assembly Speaker was also scheduled to participate in the championship as team manager-cum-player but due to various social obligations he could not make it for the tournament.

Similar see off programme was held in Gangtok earlier by state table tennis players.

The championship will have over 5,500 players, volunteers, officials and guests from 97 countries.
