Sikkim University is celebrating the National Technology Day 2019 with series of activities at Chintan Bhawan in Gangtok on Saturday.

The day-long programme will have deliberations with eminent scientists on different topics, debate and quiz competitions and other activities.

National Technology Day is observed every year on May 11 in the country to highlight tremendous progress made by the country in the field of science and technology and to encourage students in the field of science and technology.

Addressing a press conference at Sikkim University Administrative Block at Samdur in Gangtok on Thursday, Sikkim University vice chancellor Prof Avinash Khare stated that Sikkim University is celebrating the National Technology Day for the first time to highlight the tremendous technological progress made by the country in science and technology after independence and to inculcate the scientific temperament in students and general public.

The inaugural session of the programme will have the Governor Ganga Prasad as the chief guest. Sikkim University has invited students from schools, colleges and universities along with representatives from different government and non-governmental organizations.

While speaking on different activities in the celebration, the vice chancellor informed that the main highlight of the programme will be the deliberation by three eminent scientists of the country on their respective topics.

Prof Parthasarathi Mukhopadhyay from RMRC, Narendrapur will deliberate on ‘Glimpses of Ancient Indian Mathematics, Prof RR Navalgund from ISRO Bangalore will give lecture on ‘Indian Space Programme; Past, Present and Future’ and Prof Rakesh Tuli, senior research advisor from the Institute of Engineering & Technology, Punjab University will deliberate on ‘Designing Future Life Forms’.

Prof Khare stated that basic idea of these deliberations is to make students and general public to know the achievements of the country in technology and also to encourage young generation in the field of science and technology by inculcating the scientific temperament.

He stated that the programme will also have quiz and debate competitions for students and other activities. He mentioned that Sikkim University will now celebrate the National Technology Day and National Science Day every year.
