People of Gangtok have come together in a candle light prayer march for peace and harmony at MG Marg of Gangtok in Sikkim on Wednesday evening.

The event was organized by Scripture Union, Sikkim to offer prayers and homage to the people who lost their lives in the recent serial bomb blasts in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday.

Members of different communities and religions participated in the prayer march, who took a round of MG Marg from district Control Room in MG Marg to Star Hall in New Market and back to the starting point with carrying candles.

On the occasion, they offered their prayers and heartfelt condolences to victims and their families and also prayed for the quick recovery of injured persons in theses blasts.

Scripture Union Sikkim coordinator, Andrew Chettri stated that it was really saddened that many people in Sri Lanka lost their life in serial bomb blasts in churches and hotels when the people in across the world were observing the Easter Sunday. He stated that 22 children and staffs of Scripture Union in a meeting have also lost their life during these blasts.

He stated that the main objective of this candle prayer march was to remember these victims in prayers and to offer them homage and also to pray for the quick recovery of all injured in these blasts. He also thanked members from different communities and religions for their participation in this candle prayer march.

The march started with the opening prayers by United Christian Welfare Society of Sikkim (UCWSS) president, Elder Patrus Gurung and concluded with closing prayers by UCWSS general secretary, Rev Peter Samsher.
