SpiceJet‘s commercial flight landed at Pakyong Airport, 31 km south of Gangtok, the state capital of Sikkim, after almost 17 months.
According to reports, the SpiceJet flight touched down at the airport around 12:10 pm on Tuesday.
The airport was inaugurated on September 24, 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the commercial flight operation was started on October 4, 2018.
But the airport’s only commercial passenger airline SpiceJet stopped flight operations to the airport with effective from June 1, 2019 due to technical reasons as stated by the airlines.
The people of the Sikkim have expressed happiness at the resumption of the operation of commercial flight.
Meanwhile, SpiceJet has announced that it would add Ras Al Khaimah as their 12th international destination with effect from November 26, 2020.
“We are delighted to add Ras Al Khaimah as our 12th international destination. We are introducing two weekly flights between Delhi and Ras Al Khaimah, starting 26th November, 2020,” SpiceJet tweeted.
