Kolkata’s Mohammedan Sporting Club has become the champion of the 39th edition of All India Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament 2019 played here at Paljor Stadium.

A brace by Vanlalbiaa Changte has helped Mohammedan SC to edge past the home team, Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club 2-1 to lift the champions’ trophy for the third time.

Mohammedan SC has played the finals of the tournament for the tenth time, while Sikkim Himalayan SC was the second home team from Sikkim to reach the finals of the tournament this year after a gap of 39 years.

Both teams took each other neck-to-neck from the State to take the lead in the match.

With an attacking game, Vanlalbiaa Changte scored an early lead for Mohammedan SC.

In return, home team players put their best efforts to bounce back into the match but could not able to score any goal in the first half.

Sikkim Himalayan SC players played their hearts out from the start of the second half and breakthrough for the home team came with an equaliser by Eugene Nimaco in the mid of the second half.

However, Vanlalbiaa Changte soon completed his brace to extend the lead of Mohammedan SC to 2-1.

In return, the home team sweats out hard to come back in the match but could not able to stop Mohammedan SC to lift the champions’ trophy for the third time.

The winning team received the cash prize of Rs 2 lakhs, while cash prize of Rs 1 lakh given to the runners-up team.

The CM has also given the cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each to both teams.

Likewise, the CM has also announced to provide Rs 5 lakhs to Sikkim Himalayan SC to promote local clubs of the State.

Vanlalbiaa Changte of Mohammedan SC awarded with Man of the Match trophy, while Uttam Rai of Sikkim Himalayan SC adjudged as the Man of the Tournament.

Goalkeeper of Mohammedan SC, Priyant Kumar Singh received the Golden Gloves trophy.
