Gangtok: Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party has expressed its concern over the poor conditions of the roads across the State.

The party stressed that it was embarrassing for SikkimDemocratic Front (SDF) Government to claim sustainable and farsighteddevelopment after being failed even to maintain roads.

An SKM press release stated that the bad condition of most of the roads in the State clearly shows how the ruling Government has been doing works in the interest of the people over the last two decades.

The party alleged that due to commission and percentage ‘raj’, the Government has not been able to concentrate on the infrastructure development in the State.

It also added that the roads are the only lifeline for the people of the State and 90 per cent of the people have been facing problems due to bad roads.

SKM also stated that the bad condition of road has been responsible for the increasing road accidents in the State. The release alleged that the weakness of the Research and Development and Quality Control Mechanism of the concerned department has been responsible for the same.

It has been mentioned that although the Sikkim Chief Minister announced that his Government would make all roads by April 2018 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the party but it has been proved to be false.

The SKM stressed that it was now time for the Government towork instead of making false announcements. The party has demanded the Governmentto constitute a high-level committee to improve the condition of roads in theinterest of the people of Sikkim.
