GANGTOK: Sikkim continues to grapple with heavy rainfall for the second consecutive day, resulting in flash floods and landslides in different parts of the Himalayan state.

In Singtam, the deluge has caused significant disruptions, blocking the national highway 10 at Shantinagar.

The persistent rainfall in Sikkim has inflicted severe damage on roads and vehicles in the state.

NH-10 blocked: A crucial stretch of NH-10 at Singtam in Sikkim is currently obstructed at Shantinagar due to heavy rain and debris accumulation.

Debris removal efforts underway: Machinery has been deployed, and efforts are in full swing to clear the debris and restore traffic flow.

IMD reports heavy rainfall: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that 101.6 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the last 24 hours in Sikkim, leading to numerous roadblocks and disruptions across the state.

Earlier on Monday (June 10), tragedy struck Sikkim as heavy rains unleashed havoc, resulting in landslides and flash floods that claimed the lives of three individuals.

Torrential downpour led to the destruction of at least eight houses in Majuwa village, located in Yangan under South Sikkim.

Communication networks have been severely affected by the adverse weather conditions, prompting the closure of roads in the southern part of the state as a precautionary measure.
