The Lachhung Dzomsa has adopted a resolution to stop entry of people from other states till April 15 next.

In the wake of the outbreak of coronavirus, two local administrative bodies of Sikkim –Lachen Dzumsa and Lachung Dzumsa -have barred the entry of people from other states to Lachen and Lachung respectively.

Lachen and Lachung two are two most sought after tourist destinations in North Sikkim.

The Lachhung Dzomsa has adopted a resolution to stop entry of people from other states till April 15 next.

The Dzumsa, which is a body equivalent to the Panchayat system, has also requested the North Sikkim district administration not to issue work permits to outsiders till April 15.

The neighbouring Lachen Dzumsa has also decided to stop entry of people from other states to Lachen with immediate effect.

Both the local administrative bodies stated that the decision have been taken after a series of discussions with concerned stakeholders.

They also said that the decision has been taken to ensure the safety of local people in the wake of rapid coronavirus outbreak.

The move came a week after Sikkim government banned the entry of foreigners to the state in an attempt to stop the spread of coronavirus.
