An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 on the Richter Scale jolted Sikkim on Monday.
The tremor was also felt in neighbouring states like Assam, Bihar and West Bengal.

The earthquake occurred at 8.49 pm in a place along the Sikkim-Nepal border, 25 km away from Gangtok.
Confirming the earthquake, the National Center for Seismology stated on its Twitter handle that the earthquake took place at a depth of 10 km.

“Earthquake of Magnitude: 5.4, Occurred on 05-04-2021, 20:49:58 IST, Lat: 27.23 & Long: 88.84, Depth: 10 Km, Location: 25km ESE of Gangtok, Sikkim,” the National Center for Seismology stated.
On April 2, an earthquake of magnitude 3.8 occurred at 12:21 am (Lat: 23.87 & Long: 92.92) at a depth of 28 Km.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located 25 km northeast of Aizawl, the state capital of Mizoram.
