Soreng Girls Academy, West Sikkim emerged as the Champion of the 1st All Sikkim Women’s Football Tournament 2018 played at Paljor Stadium.

In a well contested final match on Sunday, Soreng Girls Academy has edged past another strong team Pragati Sangh, Soreng by a solitary goal to lift the champion’s trophy.

Hanna Rai scored the winning goal for the champions.

The first half of the neck-to-neck played final match ended in a goalless draw. The second half was again full of attacks and counter attacks but both teams failed to breach the strong defence line of each other until Hanna Rai scored the winning goal for Soreng Girls Academy in the 67th minute. In return, Pragati Sangh girls played their hearts out but wasn’t able to score any goal.

The winning team has received a cash prize of Rs 15,000 along with trophies and cash prize of Rs 10,000 was presented to runners-up team along with trophies.

The cash prizes have been sponsored by Sonam Doma Lepcha, the wife of football coach late Hangu Norden Lepcha, and trophies were sponsored by a Siliguri-based Silco.

Muskan Subba of Pragati Sangh was adjudged the Woman of the match, while the Best Player of the tournament trophy was presented to Pragati Sangh goalkeeper, Seema Gurung.

Soreng Girls Academy goalkeeper, Gyurmie Dolma Tamang received the Best Goalkeeper trophy and Highest Scorer trophy was presented to Simran Gurung for her 5 goals in the tournament.

Trophies for these titles have been sponsored by former footballer, Chewang Thendup Sangderpa and cash prizes by Sports & Youth Affairs Department Joint Director, Dr RB Biswakarma, who is also the incharge of Paljor Stadium.

The final match has the Secretary to Sports & Youth Affairs Department, SD Dhakal as the chief guest and CEO of Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club, Tenzing Lamtha was present the guest of honour among other guests. The chief guest and other guest gave away trophies and cash prizes to its winners.

The tournament was organized by Women’s Wing of Sikkim Football Association and eight teams from all four districts participated in the tournament.
