A senior politician of Sikkim and Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) spokesperson, Biraj Adhikari will contest from the lone Lok Sabha seat of Sikkim.

He is also contesting the Assembly election from Rhenock constituency in East Sikkim as HSP candidate. He is an engineer and is in active politics over two decades and contested Lok Sabha election in 2004 from the Congress party.

Hamro Sikkim Party (HSP) has announced its third list of candidates for upcoming Assembly and Parliamentary elections in the State on Tuesday. The party has announced candidates for four Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat of the State.

Another senior politician, Rudra Khatiwara will be contesting the Assembly election from Chujachen in East Sikkim. He has recently joined HSP after leaving the ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) party. Likewise, other HSP candidates are Phurkit Lepcha from Yuksom-Tashiding in West Sikkim and Sangay Chopel Bhutia from Gnathang-Machong constituency in East Sikkim.

Addressing a press conference in Gangtok on Tuesday, Adhikari stated that his main agenda would be the protection and strengthening of the Article 371F. He alleged the violation and dilution of the old laws and the Article 371F in different occasions in 25 years of the SDF government. On the same vein, he urged the people of Sikkim to support HSP for the protection and further strengthening the Article 371F.

He alleged that the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has failed to work for Sikkim and its people. He further alleged that rampant corruption has been going on during the last 25 years of SDF government in Sikkim. He mentioned that HSP was in the mission to make ‘New Sikkim’ and HSP was the only party having leaders of clean image.

Khatiwara stated that only HSP was the party with lots of youth-centric programme and policies and directly connected with hopes and aspiration of youths of Sikkim. He alleged that other political parties in Sikkim have been misleading and deceiving youths through propaganda. He stated that interest and future of youths was only with the party and appealed the people to properly understand the programme of HSP.

Lepcha, who is an entrepreneur from West Sikkim, and Bhutia, who is a driver by profession, thanked the party for providing opportunity to work for the people of their area and assured to work hard to make the party stronger in their respective areas.

Adhikari informed that in next few days the party will declare all its 32 candidates. He added that the party has been going on door-to-door campaigning in different areas across the State.
