Sikkim can now participate in fourteen national level cricket tournaments in the country included the prestigious Ranji Trophy.

Sikkim Cricket Association (SCA) officials informed that the Board of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approved the long pending demand of SCA and cricket lovers of the State of the participation of Sikkim in the national level cricketing events.

SCA general secretary, Sonam Palden Bhutia mentioned that Sikkim can now represent in fourteen national level cricketing events in the country included the prestigious Ranji Trophy.

He expressed that it was the proud moment for cricket lovers of the State.

He mentioned about the possibilities of the upgradation of the existing Mining ground into the international level stadium.

Bhutia informed that the amount of Rs two crores will be provided by BCCI and in consultation with the State Government, SCA will work forward to take Mining ground to the next level.

He added that cricket tourism can be encouraged in Sikkim on the lines of Dharmshala stadium.

SCA expressed its gratitude to the State Government and the Chief Minister for supporting and encouraging sporting events in the State.

SCA members mentioned that the approval of the BCCI to Sikkim to participate in the national championship would also encourage local players to make successful career in cricket.

However, he stressed upon the need of support and encouragement from all sides.

SCA also expressed its hope that the State Government will further increase the lease period of Mining ground which will be expired in 2022.
