East Khasi Hill district magistrate has relaxed the curfew in areas under Lumdiengjri Police Station for seven hours on Thursday.

The areas where the curfew has been relaxed included Jaiaw, Mawkhar, Umsohsun, Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Mission, Mawprem, Lumdiengjri, Lamavilla, Qualapatty, Wahthapbru, Sunny Hill, Cantonment, Mawlong Hat including Cantonment Beat House Areas (excluding localities beyond Umshyrpi bridge)

The curfew in the said areas is promulgated again with effect from 2 pm until further orders.

The situation is slowly limping back to normal after days of violent protest at Motphran and Mawkhar area which saw the clash between security personnel and unruly mob.

Clearing of debris especially stones accumulating on the roads between Motphran and Mawkhar has also began on Wednesday.

Garbage at Motphran area and other parts of the city is also piling up since June 1 in view of the prevailing situation.

On Wednesday people rushed to markets including Motphran area when curfew in the area was relaxed by five hours from 7 am to 12 noon.

But most of the shops at ïewduh, the main market in the city were not opened.  The situation was normal.
