Senior journalist and anchor of Aaj Tak Rohit Sardana passed away on Friday morning after suffering a heart attack.

The journalist had tweeted that he had tested positive for Covid-19 on April 24.

Although his RT-PCR test came out negative, it was his CT scan report that revealed his lungs to be infected by the virus.

The Indian government had awarded Sardana with the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarti  Puraskar in 2018.

He had also worked with Zee TV, ETV Network and Akashvani.

A large number of journalists in the country have succumbed to Covid-19 infections in the past one year, although the exact estimate is unavailable.

Recently, senior journalist Ayushman Dutta of The Sentinel and Northeast Now’s Tripura correspondent Tanmoy Chakraborty succumbed to Covid-19 infections.
