Security has been tightened in the vital installation and important locations by the security forces.

In order to prevent any eventuality, Assam police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been deployed in all the sensitive areas of upper Assam.

In Tinsukia district, police and CRPF are conducting round the clock naka checking in the town and on national highway 37.

Similarly, in Dibrugarh police and CRPF are carrying out night patrolling to prevent any subversive activities.

Security at Dibrugarh airport in Mohanbari has also been tightened to tackle any untoward incident.

According to sources, ULFA (I) is planning to carry out subversive activities in Upper Assam to disrupt Independence Day celebrations.

Every year, insurgent groups in the Northeast boycotted the Independence Day celebration.

“We have been done round the clock checking in all the major installations. Night patrolling has been going on to prevent subversive activities,” Tinsukia SP Siladitya Chetia told Northeast Now.

He said the ULFA (I) is now trying to spread the ideology of the outfit through some misguided youths.

“These youths stay among the common people and provide logistic support to the underground cadres for carrying out subversive activities. We are keeping an eye on their activities,” Chetia said.

Since the Independence Day is drawing closer police have taken all measures to prevent any subversive activities by militants.

“The ULFA-I may try to carry out such acts as it is desperate to make their existence felt. We have launched joint operation in Assam- Arunachal Pradesh border,”

Assam police has launched massive crackdown against ULFA (I) linkmen and sympathisers and have arrested 15 persons from different places of upper Assam districts.

After massive crackdown on Northeast rebel groups by Myanmar army, the ULFA (I) is said to have become desperate to carry out attacks to make their existence felt.
