Aizawl: Mizoram chief minister Lalduhoma on Tuesday said that implementation of government policies could not be expedited as the government has to deal with huge debt left behind by the previous dispensation.
The chief minister informed the meeting of Mizoram State Policy Coordination Committee that the government’s flagship programme ‘Handholding Policy’ would not be possible to be implemented in a massive way in the current fiscal due to the repayment of public debt.

He said that the government would take up big projects depending on the financial condition of the state.
Despite financial constraints, the government would purchase four agricultural crops- ginger, chilli, turmeric and broomsticks- from the farmers, the chief minister said.
Earlier on Monday, animal husbandry ministry Lalsawivunga had said that previous MNF government had left behind over Rs 13,500 crore liabilities, which is 95.6 per cent of the state’s annual budget of Rs 14,209.94 crore in the 2023-24 fiscal.
