Queen variety of pineapple has been declared as the state fruit of Tripura. President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday unveiled queen variety of pineapple during a civic programme at the Rabindra Bhavan as it has been declared as the state fruit.

In May, Tripura Horticulture Corporation Limited (THCL) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Spicejet Merchandaise Pvt Ltd to boost the export of pineapple from the state.

In Tripura, pineapple is one of the major fruit crops in terms of area and as per the statistics productivity of pineapple per hectare is 18.73 tonnes, which is higher than the national average of 15.80 tonnes.

Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb, deputy chief minister Jishnu Dev Barman, tourism minister Pranajit Singha Roy, Opposition leader Manik Sarkar and Agartala Mayor Dr Prafillajit Sinha were present on the occasion. The President and the First Lady were felicitated on the occasion with clocks made of bamboo.
