Even as Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya, is back on its feet after week-long turbulence in the aftermath of series of mob violence, hundreds of people attended a prayer meeting and peace march on Monday organized by the Seng Samla Malki from Madan Malki (Malki ground).

Prior to the march, church leaders led the congregation in a mass prayer.

After offering prayers for lasting peace, the participants marched from Madan Malki till Barik point and then back.

The participants also carried placards that read, ‘Pray more, worry less’, ‘Do justice, love mercy, walk humbly’,  ‘Peace, unity and harmony’, ‘Sir Conrad, we trust your governance for quick solution’, ‘Action should be taken for irresponsible SMB, KHADC and Syiem Mylliem’, ‘Mr Manjit, keep your logic with you. Let our government do the work’.

Later interacting with media, after the peace march, headman of Malki, HP Offlyn Dohling highlighted the growing demand of relocation of the residents of Punjabi Lane (Them Iew Mawlong).

He also disclosed that a delegation of the residents of Malki met the State Chief Minister Conrad Sangma recently, who had told them the issue is not that simple as it involves legal tangle and that the process of relocation will need time.

They also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister highlighting early relocation and also demanded the release of the arrested youth.
