Sensation prevailed in Bordumsa area following recovery of the charred body of a 19-year-old married woman, identified as Priyanka Chetia Moran at No 1 village of Bordumsa in Tinsukia district on Sunday.

While the locals claim it to be a case of murder with involvement of the deceased woman’s husband and mother-in-law, the police said it might be a case of suicide.

The police have taken the husband and mother-in-law of the deceased in their custody for investigation.

However, hundreds of infuriated locals have gheraoed the Bordumsa police station shouting slogans against the police and demanded the police to hand over the husband and mother-in-law of the  victim to the public.

The charred body of the woman was recovered by the Bordumsa police who have taken it in their custody.

“While the angry locals, who gheraoed the Bordumsa police station, have demanded the police to hand over the deceased’s husband and his mother and are preventing the police to take the body for conducting post-mortem,” said sources.

According to locals, the incident took place while the deceased woman was in her room, her husband along with his mother was present at their home.

Though police suspect it to be an act of suicide but the angry mob claimed that the woman was murdered following a domestic scuffle earlier in the morning on Sunday.

The sub-inspector of Bordumsa police station, Hemchandar Baruah, while speaking to Northeast Now said that as per prima facia of the incident, the act was suicidal in nature.

Baruah informed that the agitated crowd was preventing the police from sending the body for conducting post-mortem till filling of this report.

Meanwhile, the sub-divisional police officer has rushed to the place of incidence.

The exact nature of the incident leading to the death of the woman is yet to be officially ascertained.
