Tangla college organized a poetry workshop on Thursday, to explain various poetic techniques and devices.

Speaking at the workshop as resource person HOD of Assamese, Ghateswar Baruah said “Poetry is a medium to express the common conscience of the society. Genuine poetry is one which strikes the mind and soul of the reader and generates a sense of passion and desire to inscript one’s feelings in the form of poem.

Baruah apprised the students on the various ages of poetry in Assamese literature. He further defined poetry as something which enlivens the mind and soul.

“The erosion of values, loss of spiritual sense, moral corruption in the society can be treated by poetry “, Baruah added.

Speaking on the occasion eminent short story writer Jayanta Kr Chakravorty said, ” Sensible human beings with feelings ought to love poetry.”

Associate Professor of Bengali ,Dr Abhijit Chakravorty said  “The humans have turned mechanical. The social media and digital world have taken on the culture of book reading.”

Exhorting students to cultivate an aesthetic sense he said, “To hear, to visualize ,to feel are three aspects of creating literature.”

Litterateur Dr Rita Baro also spoke on the ocassion.

The programme was organized by IQAC literary cell of the college and presided over by short story writer, Prof Jayanta Kr Chakravorty. The workshop was also attended by Vice-President and Dr Anjali Chakravorty among other faculty members and a host of students.
