In a major development, four members of a gang of suspected poachers have been arrested from Purna Lahorijan area along Assam-Nagaland border in East Karbi Anglong.
As reported, the gang of four suspected poachers was reportedly travelling in a Maruti Alto car, which was intercepted for regular check in the inter-state police check post at Purna Lahorijan under Dillai police station.
On frisking the vehicle, police were able to recover one ‘22 calliber rifle with 80 live ammunition, 20 rounds of ammunition of 12 bore rifle, crackers, 3 numbers of torchlight and several mobile phone handsets from their possession.
Preliminary investigation conducted by Dillai police suggests poaching as the prime motive behind possession of the seized arms and ammunition.
The arrested suspected poachers have been identified as Binod Basumatary, Akhta Tesso, Sochet Hom and Akhpa.
All are residents of Dimapur and reportedly came for hunting in Karbi Anglong forest.
