The president of All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), Promod Boro, feels that the people of Assam should bring a regional party to power as the “national political parties can never understand the problems as well as the sentiments of the indigenous people of the state”.

Boro, while addressing a meeting at Kabirali in Udalguri district on Wednesday, further stated that it is only a regional party which can make “mainstream India identify with the problems in this remote corner of the country”.

The student leader lamented, “The saffron party never showed any sincerity in solving the Bodoland issue which has been “hanging fire” for so long. He said keeping this issue in mind, the students’ body has extended its support to United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) candidate Urkhao Gwra Brahma for No 5 Kokrajhar (ST) HPC.

The students’ body is also extending support to the former Member of Council Legislative Assembly (MCLA), BTC, Pradip Kumar Daimary for No 8 Mangaldai constituency. They are giving their support to these candidates for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.

He further raised concern over the issues of ST status and political rights to Bodos living outside BTC including Karbi Anglong. The general secretary of National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB – Progressive) (P), Govinda Basumatari, and NDFB general secretary, B Ohnjalu, also addressed the meeting, among others.
