Pema Khandu sworn in as 10th CM of Arunachal Pradesh

Senior BJP leader Pema Khandu on Wednesday was sworn in as the 10th Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh.

Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (retd) B.D. Mishra administered the oath of office and secrecy to the Chief Minister and 11 other ministers at a colourful ceremony at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre in Itanagar.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by galaxy of dignitaries, including chief ministers of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura. BJP general secretary Ram Madhav was also present at the ceremony.

Eleven ministers, including former deputy chief minister, Chowna Mein, also took the oath of secrecy.

In addition to Chowna Mein, five other sitting cabinet ministers — Wangki Lowang, Honchun Ngandam, Kamlung Mossang, Alo Libang and Bamang Felix, are also part of the new ministry.

Former deputy speaker of the legislative assembly, Tumke Bagra and two newcomers — Taba Tedir and Nakap Nalo were also sworn-in as cabinet ministers of Pema Khandu’s team.

The BJP won 41 seats in the 60-member Assembly in the elections held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections on April 11.

The Janata Dal (United) won seven seats, and the National People’s Party registered victory in five seats. The Congress could win only four seats. The People’s Party of Arunachal got one seat.

“It is a historic day for the BJP in Arunachal Pradesh as we could form a government of our own,” Khandu said, adding that on behalf of people of Arunachal Pradesh, he would like to thank Narendra Modi for his special attention in bringing about development in the state.

Khandu claimed his government would be clean, transparent and corruption-free.  The new government would work for improvement in law and order, health and education sectors.

Employment generation and wooing investments would also be top on the government’s priority list, the CM said.
